E-School Troubleshooting

This page has been set up to help you troubleshoot problems you may encounter when attempting to play an E-Lesson.

Windows Media Player Not Installed
We recommend using Microsoft Windows Media Player for best results. Most computers that use Windows 98 or higher already have Windows Media Player installed. If your computer does not, you can download a copy without charge over the Internet. Click here to Download Windows Media Player now!

Upgrading Windows Media Player
If you receive error messages while trying to play one of the multimedia presentations, you may need to upgrade your version of Windows Media Player. You can do so directly from the Microsoft website at:
http://windowsmedia.com/download/download.asp

Upgrading Internet Explorer
If you receive a message stating that Windows Media Player is "Unable to Download an Appropriate Decompressor" chances are you are running an older version of Internet Explorer. Go to the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q230687

Server Is Not Available
Some Companies do not allow viewing of Streaming media on their networks. To save the E-Lesson on your harddrive, right mouse click the file name and select "Save target as".
After saving the file left mouse click the file to play it on your workstation.

The Sound is Choppy or Out of Sync with the Video
You may need to increase your buffering time (to say 15 seconds). In Windows Media Player - Tools / Options / Performance. Alternatively, you may need to save the file to your hard drive as your network may be too busy. Right mouse click the file name and select "Save target as". After saving the file left mouse click the file to play it on your workstation.

Video is Blurry
Increase the colour resolution of your monitor. Start / Settings / Control Panel / Display and set the resolution to 24 bit colour. Additionally, the video will look blurry if it is not being played back at 100% of the original size. In Windows Media Player select View / Options / Playback and set Zoom=100%.
